A bove all other books combined, the Bible has been hated, vilified, ridiculed, criticized, restricted, banned, and destroyed, but it has been to no avail. As one rightly said, “We might as well put our shoulder to the burning wheel of the sun, and try to stop it on its flaming course, as attempt to stop the circulation of the Bible” (Sidney Collett, All about the Bible, p. 63). I found, however, a temporary peace in my arrogance and ignorance. I had always been told how “smart” I was, and I began to thrive off that. This is super late, but Strobel famously wrote his most popular apologetics book, The Case for Christ, pretending that it was written while he was an atheist trying to debunk the arguments of his newly-converted wife. In reality, he wrote the book many years after his conversion. The book is also a sterling example of poor journalism.

Presently, I am looking for a book (or a slew of books) that might hold up under the rigorous analysis and scrutiny of an atheist (such as myself).
My first instinct was Mere Christianity, but I read a critique (not a scathing one, mind you) of the book, which obviously summarized each portion of the book and provided a few important quotes.
The six books I’m going to cover are Misquoting Jesus (), Jesus, Interrupted (), Forged (), Did Jesus Exist. (), How Jesus Became God (), and Jesus Before The unbelievers eyes opened book Gospels (). All these books were written for a popular audience. They are about The New Testament, which is an easier place to start studying The Bible, than The Old Testament, which is harder to fathom and Author: James Wallace Harris.
This book contains stories that inspire; they make us understand what it is about the Catholic faith that draws people to God. In each of The atheist converted stories there are reasons why the person does not believe or gave up believing in a 'supreme being' but that tends to 'eat at their inner being'; they then realize they are seeking something 'bigger than /5(23).

No, it’s a book about god making a wager with “satan”. Here’s an example of god, not man, actually destroying Job’s entire family and life. Terry Eagleton has a good response to Dawkins, though I don't know the name.

Converted roughly a year ago. Raised generically conservative Christian by two ex-Catholics. No church attendance. I eventually took this to incredibly uninformed fundamentalism.

When I think of the value of knowing God it is this: that we can understand life, we can proceed with clarity, we can avoid pitfalls, we can be led by God, know truth, be given strength/hope/peace, and enjoy the most important relationship, the one who will be faithful to us and constantly love us.
God, who created us, provides this as nothing. In early December of the world renowned atheist author Dr. Antony Flew at age 81 astounded other atheists with his candid admission.
Flew, who is an emeritus professor of philosophy at Britain's Reading University has said that the scientific evidence available to us today is overwhelmingly in favor of the existence of a creator God.
